Criminal disfigured while stealing copper cabling

The Sun

Wednesday, June 8 2011

A criminal has suffered horrific burns while stealing copper cabling from a electricity sub-station. The man broke into the sub-station was hit by 22,000 volt . This guy, James Sorby, is this badly disfigured that even his daughter didn’t recognise him. Copper theft have soared in the UK since the value of copper has increased. James admitted that he tried to steal the copper, but warns everybody not to do it. He says: "People think it's easy but they don't realise how stupid they are being. I've been through five months of agony.” James is given 12 months of community service, but also had to get five operations to reconstruct his face.

I have no sympathy for this man. There are many more people without money and they don’t steal for a living. This man shouldn’t break in to steal things. I feel sorry for his little daughter. She had nothing to do with it, but doesn’t recognise her dad anymore. I hope the guy has learned a lesson from all this: Don’t touch somebody else’s stuff.

Nursery beast

The sun

Tuesday, June 7 2011

During a raid in the apartment of Paul Wilson, the police found images of a child being abused. The 20-year old monster has admitted today that he raped a two-year old girl. The man works as a nurse and could do this in his care. Paul also groomed more than 20 girls online, while he used more than 23 different false identities to befriend them on chat logs and social network sites. He threatened them, so the girls would take off their clothes in front of the webcam. In court, Paul denied three of the charges, but admitted offences relating 22 girls. Paul Wilson is pleaded guilty.

This is crazy. I have no other words for this. This guy is absolutely sick and should go to jail for a lifetime. It’s also a hot item in Holland, this happens everywhere. I can’t believe people can have a sick mind like this. The most shocking to me was the story of the two-year old baby. How can that be possible, during his working hours? If I was the parent of this little toddler, I’d go crazy.

Wealthy, but no love

Article

Andrea Holmes, who had won £2.5 million from the lottery nine years ago, says she still doesn’t own everything she’d like. She treated her mum and dad with a luxury cruise, gave huge amounts of money to her brother and sister, gave up her job as a hairdresser and started up her own beauty spa. But still she’s not fully satisfied. The only thing she misses is love. She is longing for a family of her own, but she thinks men are actually scared off by her bank account. Andrea states: "I'd like to settle down and I believe it will happen some time but it hasn't so far. The money can be an issue for some."

I think we all know that money doesn’t make you happy. And this is the proof for that. She had done everything she wanted and made everyone she loves happy, but she’s still lonely. I can understand that men are scared off by her bank account. Some men think that the man should be the main wage-earner. But isn’t that a little old-fashioned? I thought men were attracted to ‘independent women’? Well, here she is!

Life after near-death

The Independent

Article

This article tells us the story of James Moore. He had a terrible cycling accident which nearly cost him his life. We all know London is a very dangerous city to cycle in and everyone can tell you a horror story of someone who got hurt or worse. But because of the help of total strangers, James survived and is happy to talk about it. He had a lot of injuries and the doctors even thought that he would not survive. He’s now paralyzed which means he is not able to walk. But this all doesn’t keep him back from doing what he wants to do. He even has his own blog about his recovery in ‘The Independent’ newspaper, coming out soon.

I can really understand how dangerous it is to be a part of the traffic in London. It’s a busy and crowded city. This story won’t be the only one. But because of the help of strangers, this story becomes heroic. Not many people these days are so helpful to others. At least not at risk of their own lives. I’m happy to see James smile on the pictures. He will definitely appreciate life more than before. He is definitely glad to be alive.

Baldness treatment for Wayne Rooney

The Sun, Sunday June 5 2011

Last Thursday, Wayne Rooney has secretly visited a clinic to get a secret treatment to beat his premature baldness. The 25 years old star of the Manchester United team was seen when he left one of London’s most famous clinic ’Queen Anne Street Medical Centre’, where sessions cost thousands of pounds. A source even claimed that ‘Rooney has booked in for a two-day treatment, which will make him look five years younger. This treatment involves taking thousands of hair follicles from where they are plenty full, and ‘planting’ them into a bald area’. Rooney have just confirmed that he was delighted with the result.

Because of Rooney's popularity, this is of course world news. It’s not much alike for a 25-year old to go to a clinic because he’s getting bald. Especially when that guy is one of the best scoring players of England’s national football team. But on the other hand, he’s just a person like you and me. Why won’t the media give him just a little more space to cope with his treatment? If I’d done such a treatment, it would be annoying that people are constantly looking after me, trying to reveal every secret. But I guess it’s just their work..

Most likely source of the E coli bacteria; beansprouts

The Guadian, Sunday June 5 2011

According to German health officials, people should stop eating beansprouts. These vegetables, which are exported to a lot of countries, have been identified as the likely source of the E coli outbreak. This bacteria has already claimed 22 lives and has infected 1,700 people across Europe. This bacteria makes the victims develop a syndrome which attacks the kidney. Gert Hahne, a spokesman for the agriculture ministry in Lower Saxony wants to warn everyone for these sprouts. Since three weeks ago, German hospitals have been struggling to cope with all these victims. They have even discharged patients with less serious illnesses to handle the flood of E coli victims.

This has been an item for the last three weeks now where a lot of people have been talking about. Germany lies next to Holland, which makes it even more exciting for the Dutch. This E coli bacteria pops up out of nowhere and we still don’t know for sure where it’s coming from. The dangerous part of this all is that the symptoms don’t seem to be very striking. And once the doctors know that they’re dealing with this E coli bacteria, it might be too late.. Hopefully they’ll find the source quickly, so that no more people are going to get caught in this ‘web of ignorance’.

Sexy pop videos are te be banned from TV before 9 pm

The Sun, Saturday June 4 2011

Article

This article tells us that sexy raunchy videos could be banned from TV before 9 pm. These proposals are in a report ordered by Prime Minister David Cameron. Sexual scenes could even earn 15 or 18 ratings, just like in cinemas. It is said that modern videos contain more sex and nudity than a few years ago. It is also expected that nude adverts are going to be banned from sites near schools. The family and Paring institute states that children are experiencing too much too young.

I also think that children are exposed to sex and nudity at a very young age. But with today's changes, it's very hard to keep the kids away from all these influences. It's everywhere. I'm afraid that if you ban all these sorts of adverts and videos, it's way more appealing for children to look for it elswhere. I think we should teach children how to deal with these influences, because we cannot change it.

UK's youngest convicted hitman

The Sun, Tuesday May 24

Article

Today, UK’s youngest hitman was jailed for life. Santre Sanchez Gayle was only 15 years old when he shot a mum for only ₤200. He will serve to a minimum of 20 years. Gayle was found guilty on killing Gulistan Subasi –who is 26 years old- in front of her mother in East London. It is believed that Gayle was trying to live up to the reputation of his two stepbrothers, who are already sentenced in jail for murdering two people. Gulistan’s ex husband Serdar Ozbek paid Gayle for killing her and Ozbek was cleared of murder.

The baby chair in a car.. Without a car! *Speaker's corner*

The Daily Mail, Monday May 23

Article

Every parent knows that there are nights that your restless baby doesn’t want to go to sleep. The only solution then is to get in your car and take your baby for a ride. But not every parent is willing to go out at night, just to get their little birds to sleep. So the toy seller ‘Fisher Price’ came up with a chair for babies, which mimics the movements and sounds of a car journey. This whole new ‘Cruisin’ Motion Soother’ was devised by experts in the U.S. This chair is equipped with a motor inside, which makes the chair turn slightly. The movements vary, so that the baby gets the same sensation as being in a car. This chair is expected to cost ₤ 67 and it promises to provide the same sleep-inducting effect as a car journey has, without having Mum and Dad having to get behind the wheel.

This brand new invention sounds very easy to use. You can simply switch it on and go back to bed. But is this really the way to raise your kids? I think that you chose to raise and take care of your kids, whatever it takes. This ‘super-easy-innovative-life changing investment’ sounds a little bit like parents wanting to take the easy way out. It will definitely help parents getting more sleep, but isn’t it a way of ‘dumping’ your baby because of your own needs?

J-Lo's unflattering outfit

The Sun, Wednesday May 4

Article

This is a short article about Jennifer Lopez. A picture is revealed of Jennifer posing next to a dummy, wearing unflattering trousers. Jennifer used to be famous for her voluptuous bum, which she even has secured for what is said 220 million dollars. Jennifer wore this pear-shaped pants at her album launch which is called ´Love?’ The article mentions that J-Lo has given birth to twins. Jennifer has been working hard on her new album but apparently not on keeping her body in shape. Jennifer claims she still owns a body fit for outfits for younger people. The article obviously doubts that.

This is all about a childhood hero if mine. Back in the days I used to dance in my room, pretending I was J-Lo in person. I looked up to her and I was even jealous I wasn’t blessed with such an ass as hers. But after seeing these pictures, I can definitely say that old age does have some flaws! There is a solution for this ‘problem’, correcting underwear. But on the other hand, she gave birth to twins and I’m sure there are twin mums who are jealous at J-Lo’s body. It could have been worse..

Tommy Hilfiger's preppy clothes in London

The Daily Telegraph, Friday May 6

Article

Tommy Hilfiger´s show is now to be seen in London for ten days. This show is called the ´Prep Tour´ and it´s located in Covent Garden. A party is even given with Tommy Hilfiger as the host. The main reason for this ´Prep Tour´ is to celebrate the preppy clothes that people have worn before. After this fashion show in London, the ´Prep Tour´ will be shipped off to Duomo in Milan. A wide ranch of celebrities were present at the first night. Tommy Hilfiger himself reveals his favourite pieces of clothing to the celebs. He´d spent most of the night dashing around the store to point the most important things.

I personally really dig the Tommy Hilfiger collection. These preppy clothes look really fashionable, although they could possibly be quite expensive.
It´s a good idea to set up a ´tour´ around the world to show your designs personally. People can get to know you and your story behind the clothes. This way you low down the boundaries between you and your customers. Besides that, it´s a possibility to invite celebrities and let them show your creations. Good way of thinking by Mister Hilfiger.. Let´s see if it works!

Wayne Rooney on the field in the game against FC Barcelona

The Guardian, Friday May 6

Article

During the midweek, Wayne Rooney has suffered from a minor hamstring complaint. It was feared that Wayne Rooney wouldn't be able to compete against FC Barcelona next Sunday. But Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that public´s favorite football player Rooney will be fit to return to the Manchester side to the game against Barcelona. Manchester united will definitely be boosted by Rooney´s return. On the other hand, midfielder Darren Fletcher won´t compete against Barcelona this Sunday, even though he had a two-month absence. Alex Ferguson sees the Champions League final on 28 May as a long term goal for Fletcher.

I’ve watched the semi-final against Schalke, where it was obvious that Manchester is extremely fit. Rapid responses and clear perceptions of every player were shown last Wednesday. This al shows that Manchester is in the mood to defeat Barcelona. Despite the fact they ‘only’ need one point to go to the Champions League Final, they still want to win every match. I’m looking forward to this Sunday’s game so I can enjoy the quick footwork and teamwork of this club.

New weight loss surgery down the throat

The Daily Mirror, Monday 18 April

Article

A new weight loss surgery offers hope to obese people. This new procedure uses a flexible tube which goes down your throat. This tube folds the stomach so that the capacity decreases. This new surgery guarantees no more cutting open patients’ stomachs plus no scars!
The procedure won’t cause as many infections and pain as people who get a surgery at NHS. Anselm Agwunobi, of the private Alexandra Hospital in Manchester says that this ‘widens options to people who have struggled to control their weight through diet and exercise, and those who don’t meet the NHS requirements.’ A lot of people have signed up for the surgery so the hospital hopes to carry out the first procedure within a few weeks.

I think it’s interesting to see how many different surgeries are available for obese people. Of course everyone can try diets and/or sports, but some people just don’t manage to lose any weight. All these surgeries can finally give a solution to these people. This new procedure sounds best I think. You don’t get any scars and the doctors even say you can have an operation on Friday, go home the same day and be able to work again on Monday. This cuts down the recovery time which might sounds interesting to a few people. I’m curious which procedure will pop up next!

BBC editor giving unwanted attention to a colleague

The Daily Telegraph, Friday 15 April

Article

BBC editor Jonathan Steer, who suffers from a bipolar disorder, is fired because he had paid unwanted attention to a male colleague called ‘Andrew’. Mr. Steer had sent Andrew messages through Facebook under pseudonyms such as ‘Lionheart’, trying to discuss their ‘sexual chemistry’. But because of the disorder Mr. Steer suffers from, he couldn’t remember sending those messages. Mr. Steer was confronted with the messages, but he claims he had never read them before. Andrew says he is shocked by the natures of the harassment. Jonathan Steer claims that having this bipolar disorder is a ‘very dark experience’, which even caused him losing his job.

I’ve never heard from this disease before, but I can imagine this is a very difficult disorder. I guess it’s very confronting to read what you have written before, without knowing that you did. It’s also difficult for judges to check whether he really cannot recall the things he did. I understand Andrew’s point of view that this can be very intimidating and I understand that he wanted somebody to know what was happening. These messages are indeed unwanted, so it’s understandable that Andrew is afraid that he might turn up at his home. It’s a difficult case, but it’s clear enough that Mr. Steer should leave Andrew alone.
