Most likely source of the E coli bacteria; beansprouts

The Guadian, Sunday June 5 2011

According to German health officials, people should stop eating beansprouts. These vegetables, which are exported to a lot of countries, have been identified as the likely source of the E coli outbreak. This bacteria has already claimed 22 lives and has infected 1,700 people across Europe. This bacteria makes the victims develop a syndrome which attacks the kidney. Gert Hahne, a spokesman for the agriculture ministry in Lower Saxony wants to warn everyone for these sprouts. Since three weeks ago, German hospitals have been struggling to cope with all these victims. They have even discharged patients with less serious illnesses to handle the flood of E coli victims.

This has been an item for the last three weeks now where a lot of people have been talking about. Germany lies next to Holland, which makes it even more exciting for the Dutch. This E coli bacteria pops up out of nowhere and we still don’t know for sure where it’s coming from. The dangerous part of this all is that the symptoms don’t seem to be very striking. And once the doctors know that they’re dealing with this E coli bacteria, it might be too late.. Hopefully they’ll find the source quickly, so that no more people are going to get caught in this ‘web of ignorance’.
